Most standard IR lamps are just guessing. They blast energy everywhere, but a lot of it never actually hits the mark because the lamp’s output doesn’t match what the material actually needs. If you’re sealing aluminum lids with specific glues or thin films, “off-the-shelf” usually isn’t enough. Instead of using a generic heater, we tweak the infrared spectrum so it hits the exact frequency your adhesive loves. The “Fingerprint” Problem Think of every polymer or adhesive as having its own fingerprint. There’s one specific wavelength where it just soaks up energy. Here’s the thing: if your lamp is pushing out energy at 2.5 microns, but your glue is waiting for 3.4 microns, that heat is just bouncing off or sailing right through. It’s a waste. We fix this by picking the right filament and quartz coatings to shift that curve. The result? The energy goes straight into the sealant. You aren’t heating up the whole aluminum lid just to get a bond, which means no more worrying about warped lids or scorched packaging. How we actually do it It comes down to playing with the emitter’s temperature and how the envelope lets light through. For the heavy-duty stuff, we use doped quartz or special metallic coatings to filter out the noise. You get a concentrated beam that targets the bond line specifically. It’s fast. Really fast. The catch (because there’s always one) Matching the spectrum is great for efficiency, but it puts a bit more pressure on the lamp’s thermal envelope.
