On the press floor, unit cost is simple: uptime, rejects, and the labor it takes to swap lamps. When UV lamp output starts to fall off, cure energy drops, the line has to slow, and adhesion goes sideways. We built an industrial UV curing conveyor lamp to keep the output curve flat.
What matters, technically
We target 365nm for mercury-based inks, with peak irradiance at 1200 mW/cm² and dose stability within ±2% across the web. The high-pressure mercury vapor lamp runs at 300W/cm, held steady by a closed-loop power supply. Dichroic-coated reflectors keep the spectral purity where it needs to be. Expect 5,000+ hours with less than 5% drop in UVA output. Ozone-free quartz envelopes keep booth air clean and cut down on maintenance.
Here’s why it holds up in real production.
Consistent spectral output means consistent cross-linking, so you can sit at 120–150 m/min without constantly chasing ink tack. With low decay, cure windows stay repeatable—scrap and reprints drop. Fewer lamp changes mean less downtime and fewer spares sitting in the parts locker.
That translates to lower cost per impression, schedules you can trust, and less babysitting. Energy stays in line because the reflector efficiency delivers the dose you need without pushing the lamp.
A few things to keep straight on the floor.
Match lamp length and focal distance to your conveyor width and substrate clearance. Reflector geometry is set for a 150mm standoff. Make sure your power supply can hit the lamp’s ignition voltage and hold the run current.
This lamp runs hot, so airflow and heat shielding are non-negotiable. Compatibility comes down to photoinitiator chemistry. If you’re using LED-compatible inks, confirm peak wavelength alignment before you switch over.
